Michelle Alten-Kaehler
Academic Consultant

Over the years, I have worked in education as an instructor, tutor and educational consultant, teaching at the college level and advising middle and high school students on academic decisions and college planning. As a consultant and tutor in Kirkland, Washington, I have advised students on college planning including college lists, applications, essays, and college decisions. I have helped students prepare successfully for college entrance exams including the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. Working with numerous high school students, I have helped them make smooth and lower-stress transitions to college. I hold a bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University, The State University of New York, and a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts.
Prior to counseling students, I worked for 17 years as a freelance writer, publishing feature articles about environmental issues, art, and travel in numerous national publications including International Wildlife, Islands, and Endless Vacation. My experience as a professional writer enables me to help students strengthen their writing and editing skills, as well as work on their college essays.
As a student and writer, I gained extensive international experience, studying three languages in Europe and South America, and traveling to over 30 countries. I have lectured at institutions including the Museum of Natural History in New York and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. As an educational consultant, I continue to believe in the value of a global education, and I help students find educational opportunities that broaden their world view and help them prepare for careers in the global economy.
I have a certificate in intercultural communication from The Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication in Portland, Oregon and frequently work with international students and students from diverse backgrounds.
